FFXIV: Can ‘A Realm Reborn’ expansion, save the game?

Square Enix, developers of the hugely popular Final Fantasy franchise, continue to attempt to revive the fallen Final Fantasy XIV with a new letter from the producer. The letter discusses the changes to the game with the upcoming release of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. A suiting name for an MMO that failed in practically every sense of the word.

Square Enix enjoyed huge success with Final Fantasy XI and it continues to be popular even today, but so far their attempts to replicate this success with the second Final Fantasy MMO has failed. Once Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is released, current players will be able to continue to play the version available at the moment, but the servers will be shut down if the log ins drop below 30% of the current amount.

However, we’re going to take a look at the login numbers at the end of each month. In the event that numbers drop below 30%, we’ll take the servers down again, and decide where to go from there. Expect more details on when the servers will be back online after everything’s been shut down. But for now, go and have as much fun as you can before November 1.

Thousands of fans pray for the success of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. If it doesn’t appeal to new subscribers, we could be seeing another AAA title joining the free to play market in coming months.
