Rift: Iron Tombs Expert Mode Guide

An expert Guide to the Iron Tombs Dungeon in Expert Mode, including all boss fights, background, and recommended party members. This is an excerpt from MMOGuide Mart's Dungeon Guides.

Freemarch has earned its name as an independent and just land, thanks largely to the guiding hand of the March Wardens. Proudly refusing royal titles, they have led Freemarch since Eliam cast down Jakub the Warlord shortly after the fall of the Eth. Even the stern Mathosians allowed Freemarch some measure of self-rule, out of respect for the Wardens’ reputation.

To honor their leaders, the Freemarchers built a grand tomb complex where every Warden can rest for eternity in the company of his peers. There, the Wardens lie in spacious catacombs dug into walls of polished sandstone. Eliam himself is buried in a magnificent crypt deep in the complex, and no tomb robber would have dared the fury of the Wardens’ spirits… until the rifts came.

First Boss – Caor Ashtone

Caor Ashtone is a pretty straight forward fight, he will have a stacking aura that reduces outgoing damage and increases incoming damage by a few percent every few seconds so you must kill him fast before being overwhelmed.

The main trick to the fight is the debuff he will apply to your tank that will make healing very difficult, your healer (or anyone with dispel) must constantly keep dispelling it every time it’s applied then continue healing.

-Same as original IT except more HP and hits harder
-Dispel the debuff from the tank.
-Simple tank-n-spank
-Solo healable with a good dispeller

Second Boss – Broodmother Venoxas

Broodmother Venoxas is all about positioning and movement occasionally she will run in a random direction and everyone (including the Tank) must run out of Line of Sight behind a pillar or wall. She must be faced away from your group at all times to avoid being hit by her Area of Effect abilities.

Afterwards your tank must pick up the adds and get back on Broodmother Venoxas. As DPS you must ignore the adds and focus only on Broodmother Venoxas, the adds will despawn once she is dead.

-Line of Sight when she runs
-Face her away from the group
-Constantly spawns weak adds
-Simple tank-n-spank

Third Boss – The Three Kings

No doubt the hardest fight in the instance, even harder than the last boss. An undergeared tank will really show here because you will be tanking 3 bosses at once.

The fight starts off with each boss attacking one at a time and then when all 3 are defeated they come back and attack all at once.

Humbart the Bold – Frontal cleave and kicks the tank around. Must be faced away from group.
Laric the Ascended – Spams heals after 50%. It’s interruptible.
Derribec the Magus – High damage magic. Not interruptible.

When tanking all 3 there are 2 ways to do it, the first being killing Laric the Ascended first to prevent any heals and the second is to kill Derribec the Magus to reduce the damage your tank takes.

When Laric the Ascended and Derribec the Magus are dead there will be swarms of very weak adds, all your Dps must ignore them and finish off Humbart the Bold while your tank picks up the adds.

-Almost mandatory support needed
-Always interrupt Laric
-Face Humbart away
-Ignore adds at the end

Fourth Boss – Bonelord Fetlorn

Although Bonelord Fetlorn is doable with melee, it makes the fight much more difficult. The most common strategy is to pull Bonelord Fetlorn out into the big room and use the 2 pillars next to the stairs for Line of Sighting.

The basics of the fight are very simple, ANY time he emotes you must hide behind something. One of his abilities will make you lose control of your character for a while and the other will spawn adds for every person hit, obviously you want neither to happen!

Having all your range characters stand by 1 pillar and your tank holding the boss by the other is the simplest way so the tank only has to worry about himself hiding.

-Line of Sight EVERY emote (even tank)
-Boss hits very weakly

Fifth boss – Ragnoth the Despoiler

A very easy fight depending on your tank’s ability to move the boss around quickly. Ragnorth the Despoiler does a frontal attack so your tank must face him away from the group. After about 20% you’ll see an npc spawn with a glowing ring of light around him, your entire party (including tank) must stand in this like while Ragnoth the despoiler does his AoE that will instantly kill anyone not in the light.

-Tank face boss away from group
-Stand in NPCs ring of light during AoE
-Pull boss out fast so avoid cleave

Sixth Boss – Totek the Ancient

Totek the Ancient is a pretty easy fight, the only scary part is his immense spike damage to your tank and party. Randomly he will grab a party member and smash them into the ground for about 4,000 damage.

He will go into a “tantrum” every 20% or so and do immense spike damage to your tank, during this period your tank will need constant heals. During the “tantrum” your tank should have their back against a wall to avoid being thrown all around the area.

If you can survive through 1 “tantrum” you can beat the boss as it’s the same as the rest of the fight.

-Loads of spike damage
-Tanks back to a wall
