Game synopsis from:

Torchlight II is an action role-playing game developed by Runic Games, released on September 20, 2012. It is the sequel to Runic's 2009 ARPG, Torchlight, and features peer-to-peer multiplayer support and extended modding capabilities. A release for Mac OS is planned for some time after the PC release.[5] Runic Games originally estimated the PC version's release date to be sometime in 2011,[6] but in November 2011 company president Travis Baldree announced the game release date would be pushed back to 2012 to allow time for further polishing and beta testing.

Like the original Torchlight, Torchlight II features randomly-generated dungeons for the player to explore, and numerous types of monsters to fight for experience and loot. Torchlight II maintains the same basic gameplay as its predecessor, but features overland areas with multiple hub towns, and a longer campaign. Other new features include time of day cycles, weather effects, and a redesigned user interface. Players are able to customize character appearance with choice of sex, face, hair style and hair color. Additionally, several elements from the first game return, such as pets, fishing, and a retirement system.[/quote]

Runic Games' sequel in the award-winning action-RPG franchise features additional character classes, quests, monsters, and dungeons not found in the original game. Torchlight II also now includes cooperative play through a free, peer-to-peer matchmaking service. Play with your friends, and use the free peer-to-peer matchmaking service to meet new players of a similar level and interest. Together players will discover expansive randomized outdoor areas and deep ominous caverns; random instanced and persistent dungeons, a huge variety of all new monsters and villains, endless variations of loot to find, and quests to complete. Players journey through the perilous Overworld, enjoying all new weather features, time of day events, and a rich and cunning story to drive gameplay.

What is the Torchlight 2 story?

Years ago, the Heroes of Torchlight saved the world from the ancient evil, Ordrak. Now someone has stolen the essence of his power, and is using it to siphon off the power of the world's elemental Guardians. After witnessing the destruction wrought by this terrible artifact, the players begin a quest to stop the villain's insane plan and restore balance to the six elements. The trail leads from the beleaguered Estherian Steppes, through the war-torn Mana Wastes, and finally the haunted ruins of an ancient dwarven civilization, before descending to a realm where no mortal has set foot for thousands of years—and where an even more terrible evil struggles to unleash itself upon the world.
